Board of open schooling & Skill Education (BOSSE)
The Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education (BOSSE), Sikkim, is an open schooling board that aims to cater to the varied academic needs of the divergent group of students up to pre-degree level including Secondary/Senior Secondary, skill and vocational education. BOSSE is open schooling education board in Sikkim, was established under Act No. 14 of 2020 of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, passed on 21-09-2020, according to the Sikkim Act 2020 to promulgate and disseminate the open schooling education at state & national level.
BOSSE has been granted Equivalence by AIU (Association of Indian Universities) for purposes of Higher Education and Employment. This implies that BOSSE pass outs are eligible to take admission in all Universities, Colleges and Higher Education Institutes throughout the country as well as abroad.
BOSSE has also been recognized by NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling), Ministry of Education, Govt. of India as an open schooling Board. Thus the certificates of BOSSE are recognized at par with other Boards – both national as well as State level Boards of School Education.

The Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education (BOSSE) is recognized by several educational and governmental bodies in India. Established under the Act No2. 14 of 2020 by the Government of Sikkim, BOSSE is recognized by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), and various other state and national boards. This means that BOSSE certificates are considered equivalent to those of other recognized boards for higher education and employment purposes
EXAM PATTEN :
Examination Frequency: BOSSE conducts exams twice a year - in April-May and October-November.
Exam Modes: Students can choose to appear for exams either online or at designated examination centers.
Admission and Registration: Admission is open year-round. Students can register online or at study/admission centers. Once admitted, students have five years to complete their exams, with up to nine attempts to pass.
Credit Accumulation: Credits earned from each passed subject are accumulated until all required subjects are passed.
Pass Criteria: To qualify for a certificate, students need to score at least 33% in each subject and 33% in the aggregate of five subjects, including one language. For subjects with practical components, students need to score 33% in both theory and practical parts.
Continuous Assessment: The theory exam includes 20% continuous assessment through assignments, projects, etc.
Language of Question Papers: Question papers are provided in Hindi and English.
COURSE :
The Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education (BOSSE) offers a variety of courses at different levels. Here are the main programs:
Secondary Level (10th Standard)
- Eligibility: Minimum age of 15 years before the exam.
- Subjects: Students can choose from a range of language and non-language subjects. At least one language subject must be chosen2.
- Language Subjects: Hindi, English, Urdu, Sanskrit, Bengali, Punjabi, Assamese, Nepali, Odia, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Marathi.
- Non-Language Subjects: Mathematics, Science & Technology, Social Science, Economics, Business Studies, Home Science & Human Ecology, Psychology, Indian Culture & Heritage, Accountancy.
- Additional Subjects: Students can take two additional subjects with additional fees.
Senior Secondary Level (12th Standard)
- Eligibility: Minimum age of 17 years before the exam.
- Subjects: Similar to the secondary level, with additional subjects available at the senior secondary level.
